We are proud to be an independently owned small animal veterinary practice that was started by Dr. Fred Wingert in June of 1962 as Wingert Animal Hospital.
In February of 1990, Wingert Animal Hospital South was opened in Haysville, and Drs. Bart & Sue Wingert returned to Wichita and joined the team. Dr. Christina Richards started out as a veterinary assistant at the south clinic when she was in high school, and then returned to the practice as a veterinarian in May of 1999. All four veterinarians rotated between the two clinic locations.
As both locations continued to grow and the needs at the main clinic became heavier, the decision was made for Drs. Bart and Sue to purchase Wingert Animal Hospital in October of 2004, making it a multi-generational family-owned business. They then practiced at the Wichita location full time with Dr. Christina Richards. Dr. Fred continued at the south clinic full time until his retirement in 2006 when he sold the practice and it became Pritchard Animal Hospital.
In 2020, Dr. Jennifer Miller was added as an associate at Wingert Animal hospital, and later purchased the clinic in 2022. The clinic name was then changed to Sunflower Veterinary Care Clinic.
